Commissioner X’s Office
Charles Black flipped through his schedule for the day. He had about fifteen appointments and meetings to get through, but first he had ten minutes set aside to meet with one of the new girls from Angel Falls, Ms. Blitzen. He already knew what this was about, and already knew how this meeting was going to end, so really was impatient about getting through it. When Smith buzzed over the intercom he didn’t bother to let him speak, just called out “Send her in.”
Ms. Blitzen strode forward and held out a hand to shake, but Commissioner X immediately staggered backwards and sat heavily on his desk. He looked at her, mouth open and dazed. She had an amazing physique, even for a superheroine. Charles immediately felt drawn to her, like all of his breath was sucked out of his chest. His voice was suddenly shaky and he held up a hand, “…give me a minute, I need to sit.” He wheeled around his desk into his chair, just as the strength was leaving his legs. Yes, she was an attractive woman, but this overwhelming attraction that he felt was unnatural. He hadn’t felt this way since… He suddenly realized what was happening. “I’m sorry, Ms. Blitzen. It’s just that you, ah… you have electro-magnetic powers don’t you?”
That was one of the last things she expected to hear. “Um, yes I do?”
“I thought so. So do I. There’s an unusual side-effect of my powers when I’m near someone else like me. Our bio-electric auras get into sync and then, uh…”
Emily suddenly realized what was happening to him then took a few steps backwards. He exhaled loudly and visibly relaxed. “Thank you. Now, you’re here because you want to fight Siren.”
“Yes, sir. Very much so.”
“Well, I’m afraid that is not going to happen. I know that she’s been baiting you, I know that you hate each other. But a fight between a princess of Lemuria and a princess of Atlantis is a multinational incident waiting to explode.” Emily’s mouth dropped open. “Oh, don’t be so surprised I know who you are. I was with The Tower for a lot of years, participated in some peacekeeping missions under the Atlantic. I keep an eye on geopolitics above and below the surface.”
Emily was seething with anger, “If you understand about our cultures, then you… do you know what she called me?” The commissioner nodded slowly. “Then you know why I want her!” Emily took a step forward and the commissioner sat upright. “The kind of bile that comes out of her mouth…” She drew closer to his desk and he inhaled sharply. “She deserves to be beaten like a dog within an inch-!” As she dropped her hands on the desk a surge of lightning arced between them. Emily instantly felt a wave of heat wash over her and she moaned softly. Charles held up his hands and carefully generated a repulsion field that slowly separated them.
After a minute of incredible tension the distance between them separated their auras and they both released a surge of energy and nearly collapsed. Emily had a slight sheen of sweat over her body and was breathing hard. “oh. Is that what-? I am… I’m sorry.”
Charles waved her off, “Not your fault.” He took a few deep breaths to compose himself. “I understand your anger, but you cannot fight Siren in the Arena. And you sure as hell better not pick a fight with her outside the arena. I know that’s not what you want to hear, and I know that she’ll probably keep trying to make your life a living hell. The only thing I can do is ban her from ringside during your fights. Ok?”
Emily was still feeling aroused and self-conscious. “Ok.” she muttered. “Thank you.” she rose and scurried towards the door.
“Wait!” called the commissioner. “Look, if you’re free later, maybe we could-”
“I’m married!” she interrupted and slinked out the door.
“Of course you are…” he thought to himself. He stared at his desk for a few seconds then activated his intercom. “Smith, push back my 9 o’clock and cancel the 10.”
