METROCITY
Superheroine Battle Arena, Cafeteria
Ms. Blitzen and SilverStar finished their workout in the “super-gym” as they liked to call it. They swung by the cafeteria to get some protein shakes and to discuss their next match. Mr. Smith had told Emily that the two of them were very popular in the arena. They had a lot of Q-points, whatever that meant. And that the arena authority would pretty much let them fight whoever they wanted. Well, with the exception of Siren.
“Any idea who we should fight next?”
“Maybe get a rematch with Midnight and someone else?
“Uh, I don’t know. That chick is kind of spooooky.”
They laughed and giggled. Probably being in a cafeteria made them feel like school girls. They didn’t notice Lucky Star approach their table until she was standing right next to them.
“Next fight. Ye should fight alone.” Siobhan muttered.
Emily looked at her dumbfounded. “But we came her to learn how to fight. As a team.”
Siobhan nodded as if considering her words carefully. “Before ye be a team. Ye need to stand alone. Trust my counsel.” Before Emily or Sarah could ask her any questions, Lucky Star spun around and headed for the exit.
“Well, that was… strange.” said Sarah.
“Maybe she…” Emily was trying to think of a polite way to say it, but then Sarah blurted out, “…is drunk?”
“She sure did seem like it.”
“Um…” Sarah hesitated. “What do you think about what she said?”
“I’m not thrilled about getting into a fight without you there to back me up.”
“Me neither. But these aren’t life and death battles. We did come here to train, right? Siobhan really helped us right before our last match…”
“She does know a lot more about this biz than us…” Emily stabbed at her shake with her straw. “I guess we do it.”
Sarah sighed, “I guess we do.”
Outside the cafeteria, Lucky Star smiled and her pupils became vertical slits.
