Superheroine Battle Arena – Tides of War, part 4

METROCITY

Office of Commissioner X

Commissioner X was in a virtual conference with the PR and marketing department for the league. They were working out strategies and branding for the two members of the Dynamic Five making their debut in the arena next week.

“No, we absolutely cannot call them the Dynamic Duo. Because it’s been…” Breep! A chime on his desk console indicated that a visitor was outside his office. Charles mentally toggled the switch with his electromagnetic powers and said, “Yeah, Smith. Is this important?”

“Wouldn’t have bothered you otherwise, sir. We have a visiting dignitary that I believe is an old friend. Queen Mirisaya.”

The commissioner quickly toggled between frequencies, “Gentlemen, finish this up in the next twenty minutes without me. Smith, send her in.” Charles stood to his feet as an older Lemurian woman hobbled in. As she approached he bent slightly backwards and down with one hand forward and the other back in an awkward position. Mirisaya smiled at him.

“I always was impressed at your knowledge of Lemurian etiquette, Charles.” she nodded. “And that bow is not that easy to do out of the water without tipping over.”

Charles stood to his full height and greeted the Lemurian queen. “Your visit is most unexpected, your majesty. Otherwise I would have arranged a proper reception.”

“Oh stop it you great buffoon!” She waved him off dismissively. “You are a friend and you will call me Mirisaya. My people owe you a great debt. You and your compatriots in The Tower.”

Charles grinned and offered her a seat. They exchanged a few pleasantries and caught up on some old and new stories. Finally, Mirisaya explained why she was here in Metrocity. “It has to do with the Atlantean superheroine that recently arrived here in your battleground. Emily Kendra D’Khan Geist.”

“Yeah… Ms. Blitzen. Your daughter really seems to hate her. We’re in the process of arranging a match between them…”

“Absolutely not!” Queen Mirisaya leaned forward, “Under no circumstances must you allow Tiyura to fight the Atlantean. Tiyura is of the royal bloodline of Lemuria. D’Khan Geist is of the ruling nobility of Atlantis. The peace between us is tenuous at best, and a public battle such as this…”

“Would be a political fireball.” He half-bowed in his chair, “I understand, your-majesty-Mirisaya.”

“Oh, stop it, you old reef shark!” she said. A few minutes later he escorted her out of his office where an entourage of guards and valets were waiting. Once she was out of sight, he re-entered the virtual conference.

“…so we play up the ocean angle. Battle of the Bay! We’ll call them Bayttle-Babes!”

Commissioner X interrupted. “One, I hate that. Two, scratch everything. Siren and Ms. Blitzen are not fighting. ” He toggled over to the next channel, “Smith, call Siren to my office.” He cut the comms and waited. She was not going to like this.
